Ridley Scott, on "The Treatment" - Film vs. Video
breakingfangs: Elvis Mitchell - “Do you look back at “The Duelists” at all? I mean, when was the last time you saw it?” Ridley Scott - “I do, because with technology today one is constantly asked to upgrade old prints, and I always keep my eye on the quality of everything I’ve done before. It’s very important. And, what we’ve discovered is that digital is fading quicker than photochemical.”...

“WHY. Just WHY. Why would you put the handle THERE. I just don’t…Fuck...”
– director J., during animation review where we watch the animatic, and go, shot by shot, taking notes on what the shot should look like. J. didn’t like the handle placement on a door because it “didn’t make sense.” I’ll be filling in for someone on Friday, and I got to...

1:15AM wrap last night
And that’s not as bad as it was in college when we used to go all night long (“that’s what she said”). You would not believe the unprofessionalism on this set, haha. I actually don’t mind “that’s what she said”, but it was as if everyone was intentionally choosing their words so that ever sentence uttered out of their mouths would work for a...

Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn on "LOST" humor
EMERSON: I began to feel last season that I was in my own little private comedy. He was very sarcastic all the time. There aren’t a lot of characters you can just bounce jokes off of — Jack’s not a big knee-slapper — but there’s a special kind of Lost humor, where we talk glibly about very grave matters.
O’QUINN: When somebody’s pointing a gun at you every episode, eventually it’s like, “Whatever. You’re not gonna shoot me. Or if you do, I’ll live.”
EMERSON: [to O’Quinn] Was it you that said, “On Lost, you can’t ask somebody to pass the salt without pulling a gun”?
O’QUINN: I don’t think so. Maybe it was you.
EMERSON: I want it to be you.

“I just wanted to say that your thank you card made my year.”
– Director Jeff. If you give me a gift, *BAM*, you get a thank you card. I mentioned in the card how fun it is to hang out with him and Joe in their edit bay and listen to them joke around because some of the other directors don’t do that with me. I may not stand out or have a really outgoing...

murmurandshout asked: Not a question, but I wanted to tell you that reading your about page/manifesto months ago really did encourage me to look more closely at the end credits when I watch a movie. Besides reading the names of all those people who were part of the filmmaking process (and wondering about all the wacky job titles), I've seen some really wonderful sequences (like Up) and interesting and funny...
